Daikin Reinforces Mexico as a World-class Innovation & Manufacturing Hub
Oct 10, 2025
On October 10, Daikin celebrated the grand opening of its subsidiary, Daikin Manufacturing Mexico (DMMX), at its new campus in San Luis Potosí, while announcing a new round of investment totaling more than MXN 1.1 billion (approximately USD 60 million) for 2026.
For many years, Mexico has been regarded by numerous companies as a manufacturing base for the North American market. In recent years, however, local industries across Latin America—including Mexico—have been steadily growing. With this growth, demand for air conditioning systems in office buildings, the tourism sector, data centers, and manufacturing facilities has also risen.
Against this backdrop, over the past several years, Korean and European manufacturers have begun producing compressors locally, while Chinese manufacturers have started producing key components such as heat exchangers in Mexico. These developments are expected to strengthen the country’s domestic supply chain and establish a stable production and distribution system for both the Latin American and North American markets.
Within this context, Daikin is reinforcing San Luis Potosí’s status as a global center for innovation and manufacturing. Over the past two years, the company has invested MXN 5.778 billion (approximately USD 313 million), creating more than 3,000 new jobs.
The complex is more than just a production site. It integrates two applied product manufacturing plants and one residential air conditioning manufacturing plant. It also features a state-of-the-art showcasing Daikin’s most advanced solutions, as well as a laboratory dedicated to residential equipment R&D, focusing on key technologies such as R32 refrigerant, inverter compressors, and heat pumps. This is expected to further accelerate Daikin’s deployment of advanced core technologies in the Latin American market.
At the inauguration ceremony, Daikin also announced two additional projects for 2026, representing a combined investment of more than MXN 1.1 billion. These include MXN 880 million (approximately USD 48 million) to construct a new water-cooled centrifugal chiller production line with an annual capacity of 400 units, creating 350 jobs; and MXN 220 million to expand production of strategic components such as chiller control panels. With these announcements, Daikin’s total investment at the San Luis Potosí campus has reached MXN 6.878 billion (approximately USD 372 million). Daikin has already begun local production of air-cooled chillers for data center applications. The latest investments are expected to align with the rapidly increasing demand in this sector.
At the ceremony, Yoshihumi Takenaka, Representative Director, President, and COO of Daikin, stated: “This is a very important moment for our company. We have just celebrated our 100th anniversary and concluded 2024 with record performance. Through this announcement, we reaffirm our position as a global leader and our commitment to the strategy of ‘local production for local consumption.’ We have great confidence in Mexico and San Luis Potosí, which is why we are establishing this campus as our second production hub in the Americas. Moreover, this aligns with our corporate social responsibility—to contribute to local development and achieve carbon neutrality by 2030.”
Daikin currently employs more than 4,000 people in San Luis Potosí, across four manufacturing plants and an engineering and design center located at the Entrepreneurship Building of Tecnológico de Monterrey, dedicated to new product development. In 2024, the company’s total sales reached MXN 587.3 billion (approximately USD 32 billion).
With the completion of the new San Luis Potosí campus, Daikin has expanded its product lineup, strengthened its global presence, and established a comprehensive strategy for the Latin American market.
